Emma became Deputy Chairman of LGBTory in January 2011 and has held a number of roles in Reading West Conservative Association, including Chairman (2009-2011). She was elected to Reading Borough Council in May 2008, taking the seat from Labour. In addition to being a local councillor, Emma is also a governor of a Reading primary school.

After studying history at Reading University Emma has held a number of jobs in the financial services industry and currently works for a life insurer. Whilst working full time Emma studied law at the College of Law and Inns of Court School of Law (both in London) and was called to the Bar at Lincoln'sInn (2005). Emma takes a civil rights issues and is a supporter / member of both Liberty and Stonewall.
